How Weighted GPA is Calculated

A weighted GPA gives extra grade points to harder courses — Honors (+0.5) and AP/IB (+1.0). This means an A in an AP class counts as 5.0 instead of 4.0, and your GPA can exceed 4.0.

Weighted GPA = Total Weighted Quality Points ÷ Total Credits
Quality Points = (Grade Points + Course Bonus) × Credits

Course Type Grade Point Scale

Grade Regular Honors (+0.5) AP / IB (+1.0)
A+ / A4.04.55.0

B3.03.54.0

Note: D+, D, and F grades typically do not receive Honors/AP bonus points at most schools.
